So Holland lost and Amsterdam sobbed. I've never seen a place so busy and yet so quiet. From the looks of things they were very unlucky to have lost but never the mind we've all got our health. The day before that we explored the city and saw all the tourist attractions.... yes including the Red Light District. It's a bit surreal here with all these scandally clad women in windows and the constant smell of marijuana and people looking more thunderstormed then ever. That night as we were making our way back to our Houseboat, the wind picked up and an almighty storm swept all over the city. we were forced to take shelter and ran into some kind of party/pub. None of them spoke english but just laughed at how wet we were and said "refugees!" We sniggled politely and walked in. We sat down and tried to mop all the dampness off ourselves with our clothes and after a while decided we might aswell grab a beer. We spoke to the guy and he said "your not suppose to be here, would you mind leaving?" we laughed, apologized to the arsehole, shrugged it off and ran to find some other shelter. The rain didn't budge so we looked at each other and decided to run for it, we were drenched anyway. When we got back we both couldn't sleep that night so at about 3am we decided to go for a walk, now the rain had stopped. That turned out to be short lived as it was pretty eerie. We woke up the next morning and just slept through the day and chilled out on our lovely houseboat as we knew we were not going to get many more chances to do this, this year. Finally the evening snuck up on us and people were raring themselves up for the world cup final. We decicded to watch the game with 250,000 people but it was so busy and with a fight breaking out every 10 minutes we decided to leave at half time and go back into the city. The game ended and everyone seemed very dejected so we trotted back home for our last night on our boat.
Amsterdam is nice, it's a very beautiful, environmentally friendly city with the thousands upon thousands of bikes. (even if it seems their government is run by a few hedonistic chaps) Anyway we're off to Hamburg today and Berlin the following.
